Grayson Highlands State Park
Description
The Appalachian Trail runs through wooded highlands punctuated with rock pinnacles. For 57 miles the Virginia Highlands Horse Trail winds through this park and adjoining National Forest area. Riders should bring their own horse and call ahead for detailed information on backcountry camping facilities, including stalls. Hikers exploring 25 miles of trails might see waterfalls or grazing ponies along the way. The visitor center, open between Memorial Day and Labor Day, is set up as a museum and crafts center. Individual and horse campgrounds are available spring through fall. Take Interstate 81 S to Rte 16; turn W on Rte 58 into the park.Pets: Please call for more information.Reservations and restrictions: All campsites must be reserved.
