From the Jetty Fishing Pier, you can watch the hustle and bustle of boats coming and going along the Calcasieu Ship Channel which is protected by the three quarter mile long jetty first constructed in 1938 when the ship channel was originally dug. Look near the jetties for playful and intelligent Bottle-nosed Dolphins. If you walk towards the east, a pavilion, restroom and shower facilities as well as a birding observation tower are available. From the tower and along the beach you may see shorebirds, pelicans, and other waterfowl loafing on the shore or riding the surf just offshore.
