Description

Named one of the “Ten Best Waterfalls” in the National Parks by National Geographic, the 60-foot falls carved by Brandywine Creek demonstrates classic geological waterfall features. A combination of boardwalk and steps brings you into the waterfall’s gorge and lets you view the waterfall head-on. (A boardwalk option without stairs also is available.) The boardwalk provides a close look at Berea Sandstone. Careful inspection reveals the individual grains of sand that accumulated in a sea 320 million years ago. Berea Sandstone is high quality sandstone found commonly throughout this area, both in nature and as a construction material used in buildings and canal locks.

On the property adjacent to the falls, you can stay at the Inn at Brandywine Falls. Its carriage house - the Granary - was named one of the “Ten Best Park Rooms to Beg For” in National Geographic’s book “The 10 Best of Everything - National Parks.” The Inn was built in 1848 and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
