Antone’s, named for legendary Austin promoter, Clifford Antone, has been known for its blues since opening in the downtown/warehouse district in 1975. That first night featured Clifton Chenier, and, since then, such blues greats as Muddy Waters and B.B. King have graced its stage. Others---Stevie Ray Vaughn among them---played here in their early days. In 2013 the club moved from its Sixth Street location to a venue 3 miles southeast. Although rock, roots, and other bands play Antone’s, the club still emphasizes the blues. And, at the larger, two-story Riverside location, there’s a lot more of it. If you can’t catch a show, stop by Antone’s Record Shop, known for its selection of blues and roots music, on Guadaloupe Street.
