Apalachicola National Forest - Springhill Road

Description

This portion of the Byway encompasses the eastern portion of the Apalachicola National Forest. The roadway first passes through the site of the historic mill town of Helen. Though there is nothing left of the town itself, you will notice a raised roadbed on the west side of the Byway, which was the railbed for the Georgia, Florida, and Alabama Railroad of 1893. This railbed is now being converted into the GF&A bike trail.Facilities include Trout Pond GF&A trailhead, offering a parking area, playground, picnic tables with shelters, and fishing pier. Another GF&A trailhead is Lost Lake with parking and picnic tables.
