Bagdad Theater & Pub

This McMenamin brothers movie house is a classic. Its 1927 construction was financed by Universal Pictures, which spared no expense. There was a fountain. The usherettes wore Arabian-style uniforms seemingly plucked from central wardrobe. It had an orchestra (until the advent of talkies) with a renowned conductor. It showed Golden Age films and hosted vaudeville and other theatrical events.

Today, the theater’s restored Mediterranean-style exterior hints at the grand interior, replete with mosaic tiles, wrought-ironwork, and Moorish-style chandeliers. You can catch second-run Hollywood blockbusters, reruns of classics, and the occasional indie---all for under 5 bucks! But that’s not all. Grab a full meal in the adjoining Back Stage Bar before your flick, or enjoy pizza or burgers and a McMenamins brew during the show. Oh yeah, and the theater is reportedly haunted, which might explain any unsettling experiences you have with mysterious flickering lights and sudden chills.
