Black Hills Institute of Geological Research

Description

Noted for its paleontological field work and many remarkable discoveries, this institute loans or sells fossil specimens to museums throughout the world. Exhibits in its on-site museum change frequently, as major new finds are featured and loaners—such as Stan, the museum’s famed Tyrannosaurus rex—come home for return engagements. In addition to dinosaur skeletons and animal fossils, there’s also a collection of agates, minerals, and meteorites. The Everything Prehistoric gift shop has a huge selection of toys, books, games, and crystal items.
