Borrego-Palm Canyon Trail (Anza-Borrego Desert State Park)

After a mile-and-a-half scramble over rocky, sun-baked terrain dotted with agave, cholla, and barrel cactuses, you'll reach a green, shady oasis where hundreds of fan palms tower over a tumbling stream. "Borrego" is a Spanish word for bighorn sheep; keep your eyes peeled and you might spot some of these timid, graceful creatures on the rocky slopes above the trail.
