From 1871-1873 Granada was a boom town on the Santa Fe Trail, "Gateway to Colorado" and "End of the Track" after the Pacific Railroad stopped just east of town. Granada lost the bid for county seat to Lamar and soon became a ghost town. When Camp Amache was built in 1942 by the US government to intern thousands of Japanese American citizens during World War II, Granada became a boom town once again. Take the interpreted trail through ruins of Amache, and the reconstructed towers. Visit Amache Museum to learn more about Amache.
