Carmel River State Beach

Description

This mile-long day-use beach (not to be confused with Carmel Municipal Beach) is adjacent to the Carmel River Lagoon and Wetlands Natural Preserve, making it a great place for bird-watching as well as beachcombing and picknicking. A trail runs along this sandy stretch, connecting it with the north end of Monastery Beach. The tidal action here, as well as the shore's steep drop, make swimming and surfing dangerous. Leashed dogs are permitted on the beach (but not on the wetlands).
