Clatsop County Historical Society

Description

This outfit operates a trio of museums. Start at the Carriage House Visitors Center (7th and Exchange streets). It’s right behind the Captain George Flavel House, an 1885 Queen Anne–style mansion whose hexagonal tower and many wings leave no doubt as to why it was chosen as a location for the 1985 movie, The Goonies.

Some have also reported mysterious tunes emanating from the Music Room, the apparition of a woman in the hallway, and the sense of being watched in the Library. Most likely, though, you’ll just sense the history amid all the elegant period furnishings and fixtures. You can also visit the Heritage Museum, where cultural and historical displays include a partially recreated saloon, or the Uppertown Firefighters Museum with its vintage trucks and gear.
