The Congressman Ralph Regula Canalway Center inside the Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park is a great place to start a canal adventure! Named for a long-time canal champion, the Center features 11 interactive displays showcasing Ohio & Erie Canal history, business innovators, and nature. After having photos taken at log-in stations, guests interact with the rest of the exhibits, finally receiving a personalized Canalway Explorer card as a memento upon exiting the Center. Computer-assisted displays let guests pretend they are captaining a canal boat, learn about the “giants” of local industry and the values that made them successful, and understand the habitat needs of Canalway wildlife and the role citizens play in protecting water quality. Other amenities on site include a gift shop, snacks, picnic areas, hiking trail, fishing, indoor bird viewing areas, boat rentals, and a branch library. Canalway Center admission is free. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
