Daniel Boone National Forest

Description

Daniel Boone National Forest is located across 21 counties in the Appalachian Mountains of eastern Kentucky. Wildlife in the forest includes bears, eagles, falcons, and elk. The forest houses a full range of outdoor recreation: more than 600 miles of hiking trails, backpacking, horseback riding, mountain biking, and cross-country skiing. Camping ranges from primitive in the two wilderness areas to RV with electricity and water; some sites are open year-round but with reduced services. Most campsites are available on a first-come, first-served basis; however, some units at campgrounds located on the lakes are available through the reservation system. Two lakes with marinas provide canoeing, boating, and fishing. For those interested in hunting, the Pioneer Weapons Wildlife Management Area is next to Cave Run located within the forest. For more information call 859-745-3100. Alcohol is not permitted in the park. Pets: Leashed pets are permitted in most areas of Daniel Boone National Forest with the exception of swimming areas.
