Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge
Description
A wide variety of habitats, including lakes, prairies and wooded coulees, draws hundreds of different species of bird to the 19,500-acre Des Lacs National Wildlife Refuge along the Des Lacs River. Giant Canada geese commonly nest here, producing 150 to 200 young each year. Another highlight is the opportunity to observe the delightful courtship dances of the western grebe. Two auto tour routes wind along the river and marshlands.
