Door County Maritime Museum

Description

In addition to learning about shipbuilding and commercial fishing at this waterfront museum, you’ll meet a colorful cast of characters that include hardy fishermen, ingenious shipbuilders, and stalwart lighthouse keepers. A highlight is the restored tugboat John Purves, built in 1919 and used for Great Lakes towing and salvage operations. The Baumgartner Gallery explores the history of lighthouses in Door County—which has one of the nation’s greatest concentrations of them—and displays more than 30 model ships.
