Ephrata Cloister
Description
One of the earliest communal societies in America, Ephrata Cloister was founded by German Seventh-Day Baptists in 1732 and lasted until 1934. The semi-monastic members were known for their ascetic lifestyle and skills in music, calligraphy, and printing. Eleven of the colony's original buildings have been restored. Exhibits at the visitors center explain Ephrata's fascinating history. Daily guided tours are available.
