Essex Shipbuilding Museum

Description

This museum tells the story of the town’s shipbuilding industry, which produced approximately 4,000 wooden-hulled ships between 1650 and 1950. Exhibits include photos, plans, half-hull and fully rigged models, tools, construction techniques, and hands-on displays at the original shipyard. If you take the tour you’ll see a video about traditional shipbuilding and learn first-hand about what is required to craft a seaworthy vessel. A gift shop sells everything for the secret sailor inside of you.
