Havre Beneath the Streets

Havre Beneath the Streets gives visitors a fascinating look into the unique underground life of a small railroad town at the beginning of the 20th century. About a dozen subterranean businesses rediscovered in 1989 have been restored using artifacts found on the site. Stop by the Chinese laundry where local cowboys would take a bath and pick up the fresh going-to-town clothes they'd left to be cleaned. In the opium den, you'll see bunk beds. A bordello has mysterious numbers painted above each bed. Guided tours are given seven days a week, from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, mid-May through mid-September, and from 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM, Monday through Saturday, during the rest of the year. The tour starts under the historic Pepin Broadwater block on First Street. Admission is charged, and reservations are recommended.
