Historical Society Museum

Description

Located in a 23-room Queen Anne-style mansion, the Seneca Falls Historical Society Museum in Seneca Falls, NY, illustrates family life in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The mansion began as a modest one-room house in 1823. Over the years subsequent residents added on to it until the 1880s, when it took on its final, elaborate form. Today the first floor is curated with period pieces, some original to the house. The museum's second floor features a master suite of bedrooms, several smaller exhibits such as children's toys, and a research library. Guided tours are included in the price of admission. A small gift shop features books and the Seneca Falls Historical Society's publications about the Seneca Falls area. It also includes some It's a Wonderful Life items, because Seneca Falls may have been the inspiration for the classic holiday film's setting, Bedford Falls.
