Inn at Montchanin

A stay here puts you in the heart of a historic hamlet. Its 28 rooms and suites are inside 11 restored 18th-century cottages, once the homes of trades people and laborers, many of whom worked at the DuPont black-powder mill. The contemporary American restaurant, Krazy Kat’s, is in the town’s former blacksmith shop. The reception and lounge areas and the spa are in what was once an enormous barn.

Tidy brick lanes---lined by flowerbeds, shrubs, and shade trees---connect the buildings and allow for short, tranquil strolls. Each room and suite has a different configuration, though all have marble baths and are appointed with stately rugs, fabrics, and furnishings appropriate to both period and place. Some have gas fireplaces and/or private courtyards. Prices are reasonable for an inn of this caliber, especially when you consider the many free in-room perks.
