MacKerricher State Park

Four miles of uninterrupted beach offer refuge for harbor seals and a playground for hikers, bicyclists, and fishermen, along with wheelchair access to the most popular areas of the 1,530-acre park. A special attraction for horse lovers is the opportunity to ride horseback through the surf. Handicapped-accessible campsites are available. During winter and spring, the park's headland offers a great vantage point for viewing migrating whales. Located 3 miles north of Fort Bragg on Hwy 1 near the town of Cleone. Pets: Leashed pets are permitted on campgrounds but not on any trails, the beach, and in park buildings. Guide dogs are exempt from these restrictions. Reservations, fees, and requirements: California has a central telephone number for reservations at state park campgrounds: 800-444-7275. There is a nonrefundable fee charged for each reservation made. Reservations are highly recommended for all campsites. Most state parks charge a nominal day-use fee, which varies from park to park depending on facilities. Appropriate California hunting and fishing licenses are required to engage in these activities.
