Mississippi Museum of Art

This is the largest art museum in the state, containing an extensive permanent collection of more than 3,100 works of art spanning thousands of years. The museum's collection has a particular strength in American landscapes, and also features works by European masters, Japanese prints, pre-Columbian ceramics, and Oceanic tribal art. There is a very strong representation of Mississippi and Southern artists, and the MMA hosts special exhibitions throughout the year. The museum moved to its new building in 2007 and began to offer free general admission at that time. Admission is only charged for special touring exhibits.
