National Aquarium in Baltimore

The National Aquarium's three buildings, which include multiple levels and 209,000 square feet of exhibit space, house more than 16,500 animals from 660 different species. Among the newer attractions are the 4-D Immersion Theatre combining high-definition 3D films with special sensory effects such as mist and wind in presentations like Planet Earth: Shallow Seas, Animal Planet Australia: Wild Extremes which opened as part of a major addition in late 2005, and Frogs! A Chorus of Colors, which exhibits frogs both common and exotic in the United States. The 260,000-gallon Wings in the Water pool features one of the largest ray collections in the country. Maryland: Mountains to the Sea has four separate exhibits depicting the state's habitats. Open Ocean, a 225,000-gallon, ring-shaped exhibit, offers large sharks and smalltoothed sawfish. The National Aquarium's 1.6 million annual visitors can also visit three gift shops: the Aqua, Dolphin, and Shark shops.
