National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library

Description

The museum features exceptional examples of hand-crafted folk art, glass, ceramics, prints, rare maps, military objects, and even a classic 1935 Jawa motorcycle. An internationally recognized collection of Bohemian, Moravian, and Slovak folk costumes is displayed. Typical designs feature brilliant colors, flourishes of gold thread, and intricate lace work. On July 14, 2012, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library will reopen for visitors. With more than 50,000 sq. ft, the museum is much larger than before the 2008 flood. The opening exhibit will feature 230 pieces of art nouveau works by the Czech master Alphonse Mucha. Visitors will also find Czech textiles and Slovakian children’s book art, a stunning gift store, 1880’s immigrant home, auditorium and banquet hall.
