Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge

Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, a vast wetland area in Georgia, stretches across 400,000 acres of lakes, water trails, and moss-draped cypress trees. Guided boat tours, kayaks, and canoes provide opportunities to encounter hundreds of species of wildlife, such as alligators. Fishing, picnicking, and bike rentals also are available in Okefenokee. In the midst of Cumberland Island's salt marshes, dune fields, maritime forests, mud flats, and tidal creeks, visitors sometimes spy historic structures and wildlife like sea turtles, wild turkeys, wild horses, armadillos, and shore birds. Accessible by passenger ferry (8 miles east of Kingsland at I-95's Exit 3), the 36,415-acre island boasts great biking, backpacking, bird watching, boating, camping, fishing, hiking, and kayaking.
