Orvis Hot Springs

These natural lithium hot springs are available for soaking year-round. Visitors can pay for an hour-long dip or stay for the day. Check the front desk for the water temperature posting, which is updated every two hours. Dedicated soakers can try the hottest spring. Known as the Lobster Pot, it ranges from 108 to 114 degrees. All the outdoor pools offer views of the surrounding mountains but, happily, not the nearby road. Lawn chairs and garden swings dot the grounds, so visitors can cool off between dips. The indoor pool offers consistently temperate waters (101 degrees). A private indoor hot tub may be used on a first-come, first-serve basis. The springs are clothing-optional, and while some visitors don swimsuits, most of them wear nothing but an air of assumed nonchalance. The staff forbids staring or other inappropriate behavior as a sign in the main building reads, "Skinny dipping is not a spectator sport." If you're looking for a longer stay at the springs, you can rent a lodging room or campsite on the grounds.
