About the time owner Matthew Barbee was tiring of his fast-paced Los Angeles lifestyle and asking himself “What’s next?”, he discovered the joys of beer—specifically, Belgian beer from the Wallonia region. After returning to Ohio to work on his family’s 1870s former horse farm, he thought about opening a winery, but then he thought, “No. A brewery.”
Upon testing the water on his family’s property, Barbee discovered that it had the same mineral content as that used to make . . . Belgian beer in the Wallonia region. Since 2010, this brewery has been crafting a line of hardy Belgian-style beers. The brewery doesn’t serve food (you’re welcome to bring your own), but on Sunday it offers cheese boards with the craft brews.
