San Diego Zoo

Description

Considered by many to be the country’s finest zoo, this spectacular 100-acre establishment houses more than 3,700 animals from more than 650 species—including the largest collection of koalas outside of Australia and the Giant Panda from China. Spaces mimic the animals’ natural habitats as much as possible. Kids can view animals their own size at the Children’s Zoo, and everyone can view the park from the Skyfari aerial tram or a double-decker tour bus.

The 10 on-site dining options range from full-service joints like Albert’s Restaurant to snacks at Poppy’s Patio. Note: The affiliated, 1,800-acre San Diego Zoo Safari Park is about 30 miles north. This wildlife sanctuary showcases 3,500 animals from Africa and Asia in large field exhibits much like their native habitats.
