Santa Fe Trail Region

Description

An enormously important part of both local and national history, the Santa Fe Trail brought the first white settlers to this region as they followed the Arkansas River. Trading posts sprang up along the route. Military posts dotted the route as well, protecting mail and freight wagons from American Indian raids.
