Sea Lion Caves

Florence, Oregon, has some of the world's largest oceanfront sand dunes: up to 500 feet high and 3 miles deep. Although a 125-foot-high cave seems small by comparison, the inhabitants of the Sea Lion Cave are anything but. On a visit here you'll descend 208 feet into a grotto, where as many as 200 massive sea lions live in fall and winter. In summer, look for bull lions, which can weigh up to 2,000 pounds, lying on the rock ledges outside the cave. Daylight viewing hours vary, so call ahead for recommendations.
