Serpent Mound State Memorial

Description

Serpent Mound is the largest serpent effigy in the U.S. This very famous and ancient earthen snake stretches nearly a quarter of a mile and is believed to have been built by the original Ohioans, the prehistoric Adena, between 800 BC and AD 100 and the Fort Ancient culture (AD 1000 - 1550). No evidence of its purpose has been found. The park is open year round and the museum is open early April through the end of October. Call for hours.
