Smith River National Recreation Area

Description

Smith River National Recreation Area is in the northern part of the Six Rivers National Forest, amid stands of giant redwoods and bordering the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park, the Smith River, and Sanger Peak. You can explore the area with a drive along scenic Highway 199 or on hiking, kayaking, or canoeing trips. Camping---in developed or backcountry sites---mountain biking, and river fishing are also options. Reservations are highly recommended for campsites, and fishing requires a state fishing license. Leashed pets are permitted.
