Smith Rock State Park

Description

At 651-acre Smith Rock State Park (about nine miles northeast of Redmond), the rocks are for climbing, not collecting. The park enjoys world renown as one of the best climbing destinations in North America. The more than 1,500 rock-climbing trails include options such as "Tammy Bakker's Face," "Exile on Main Street," and "Cinnamon Toast." Nonclimbers can take advantage of hiking trails, canyon views, and chances to spot wildlife such as golden eagles, river otters, and beavers. Camping is allowed; sites are first-come, first-served, and open fires are prohibited.
