Staten Island Ferry

Each weekday, 5 vessels carry 70,000 passengers over the course of 109 trips. Although things slow down on Saturday and Sunday, the numbers are still impressive with 4 vessels making 88 and 82 trips, respectively. Even more impressive: the views from the ferry of New York’s skyline and the harbor, including the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island---and all for free!

Boats make the 5-mile, 25-minute (each way) trip from Manhattan’s Whitehall Ferry Terminal (South Ferry) and Staten Island’s St. George Ferry Terminal (1 Bay St.) every 15 to 20 minutes during weekday rush hours and every 30 to 60 minutes off peak and weekends. You can grab a coffee (or a beer) and a quick bite aboard the ferries, too.
