T.C. Steele State Historic Site

Landscape painter Theodore C. Steele (1847–1926), the most highly respected of Indiana’s painters, moved to Brown County in 1907 and helped introduce the area’s beauty to an international audience. This state historic site preserves Steele’s studio and home—the charmingly named House of the Singing Winds. You can tour both structures as well as gardens planted and tended by Selma Steele, the artist’s wife. Five scenic hiking trails, from easy to steep, wind through the property, which also has a gift shop.
