The Fouke Monster Mart

It’s mysterious. It goes by several names: the Fouke Monster, the Southern Sasquatch, the Boggy Creek Monster (a name that inspired the 1972 cult horror film The Legend of Boggy Creek). Down through the decades, this large, mysterious, ape-like creature has been sighted in the vicinity of Fouke’s Boggy Creek dozens of times---by everyday folk driving along backcountry roads as well as by law-enforcement officials and seasoned hunters and fishermen. If you’d like to investigate this hairy hominid for yourself, you’ll need to make the Fouke Monster Mart your first stop. People from all over the world have come to this convenience store on just such a quest, and the friendly staffers know all the old stories, are up on the most recent sightings, and can give you directions to Boggy Creek. They even have a small gift shop with monster-related souvenirs as well as copies of Lyle Blackburn’s comprehensive book about the creature, The Beast of Boggy Creek. The Monster Mart is also a great place to stock up on snacks and other sundries, or grab a slice or a pie at the on-site pizzeria.
