The Restaurant at Convict Lake

Convict Lake, one of the most lovely of the Alpine lakes that grace the Mammoth Lakes region, got its rough-and-tumble name from an 1871 gun battle between convicted fugitives and a sheriff's posse. You're not likely to find much gun-play there today, especially not at the plush, rustic Restaurant at Convict Lake. If price is no object, plan to dine here. This, the most acclaimed eating establishment in the region, has won a host of accolades. Prices range from $7.95 for a salad appetizer to about $35.95 for an elk entree. Specialties of the house include duck, rack of lamb, local trout, and beef Wellington, one of the restaurant's most popular dishes.
