Southern Alberta offers visitors the typical Canadian tourist attractions -- Mounties on dancing horses, trained raptors, buried towns, and the Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump. It is worth a call to this World Heritage Site just to hear the phone answered "Head-Smashed-In." The buffalo jump's $10 million interpretive center, containing five levels built into the hillside, depicts the life of the prehistoric Plains peoples, the buffalo hunt, and the archaeology used to reconstruct this fascinating way of life. Besides having a fantastic name, the Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump is a well-executed and intriguing Plains Indian cultural treasure. Don't miss the Mounted Patrol Musical Ride featured at the Mounties' official museum in Fort Macleod -- they're not Rockettes, but then they're working with twice as many legs and a Mountie on their backs. Have your picture taken with a raptor at the Alberta Birds of Prey Centre. Catch the live flying shows with trained hawks and falcons swooping down across the laps of bewildered spectators. At the opposite end of this tour, you can see where a mountain crashed down and put an end to a town in 1903.
