Lake Tahoe, Nevada, nestled among mountains and towering forests and speckled with impressive resorts, is a popular place for weekend excursions and family vacations. This tour, tracing the eastern shore of the lake, begins at Hidden Cave archaeological dig east of Fernley. Here, take a quarter-mile hike to a Native American burial ground. North of Carson City is the Bowers Mansion, built in 1863. It is one of the finest examples of homes in Nevada built by millionaires of the Comstock mining boom. You can't visit Nevada without making a trip to Reno, the "biggest little city in the world." An automobile fanatic would appreciate the National Automobile Museum, which showcases 200 vintage, classic, and special-interest automobiles.
