The heart of America lies in this tour of northwestern Missouri into southern Iowa. Begin in St. Joseph, Missouri, by visiting the Pony Express National Memorial. In April of 1860, Billie Richardson, the first mail carrier, left the Pony Express stables on a 2,000-mile expedition to Sacramento, California. Racing fans should make a pit stop in Corning, Iowa, to visit the Adams County Speedway, which features a half-mile NASCAR-certified dirt track. In Shenandoah, Iowa, the Earl May Show Garden will interest the floral enthusiast with its 25 acres of flowers, vegetables, exotic grasses, trees, and shrubs.
