Description

The Natchez Trace Parkway, a chain of trails that originated more than 8,000 years ago, runs between Nashville, Tennessee, and Natchez, Mississippi. From the 1780s to the 1820s, the trails were of large importance to the military and for commercial use. Andrew Jackson marched his troops along these trails amidst the War of 1812. Natchez, the first stop along this tour, is home to some of the most impressive mansions in the south. Tour the Melrose Estate, built in 1845, which includes the home, gardens, and slave quarters. Resume your trip north to Jackson, Mississippi, and visit the spared Governor's Mansion, headquarters to Sherman and Grant during the Civil War. Wrap up this Civil War tribute by stopping in Tupelo, Mississippi. Here, you can visit Tupelo National Battlefield where, in June of 1864, General Sherman and his troops fought Confederate troops.
