Description

Head into Ozark Territory, the word "Ozark" meaning "toward Arkansas," the direction in which you will be heading on this tour. Start in Fort Smith, Arkansas, at the Fort Smith National Historic Site. Fort Smith served as a fort from 1817 to 1824 and from 1838 to 1871, and as a federal court from 1872 to 1896. While at this national park, also pay respect to the 10,000 Indians that died along the Trail of Tears, a result of the U.S. government relocating these Indians in return for their valuable land. After heading north into Missouri, check out Silver Dollar City in Branson. Ride a roller-coaster or attend a festival at this 1880s-themed village. Veer south and return to Arkansas, stopping at Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs. The chapel is 48 feet tall and includes 6,234 square feet of stained glass.
