Description

Travel in a clockwise pattern around the northern, eastern, and southeastern shores, focusing on Hawaiian sights outside the city on this trip around Oahu. Begin in Pearl Harbor to reflect upon a marble wall inscribed with the names of 1,117 sailors and marines lost in the attacks on December 7, 1941. Near the visitors' center, you can walk through the Pacific Submarine Museum that displays memorabilia of undersea combat. Heading northwest, you'll come across Haleiwa, a commercial center for the miles and miles of surfing beaches and home of the Haleiwa Beach Park that offers year-round swimming (even when winter surf is threatening elsewhere). Also make time to visit Puu O Mahuka Heiau, an historic spot that once was the site of human sacrifices. End in Honolulu, the shopping, recreational, and entertainment hub of the island.
