Shreveport and Bossier City, Louisiana, are two of the best-kept secrets in the state. Nestled on opposite banks of the Red River, there are riverboat casinos, museums, art galleries, and gardens to see on this trip. And the two cities even have their own Mardi Gras celebration. Your Red River road trip begins at Harrah's Louisiana Downs, in Bossier City, Louisiana. Casino games and live horse racing are featured here. Head west on I-20 toward Shreveport for more attractions clustered on both sides of the Red River. A boat trip on Spirit of the Red River shows off wildlife habitats, while The Sci-Port Discovery Center features exhibits and an IMAX theater. Fertitta's Delicatessen is located in Shreveport's Blue Goose District and is famous for "Muffy's" (muffaletta sandwiches). For a trip back in time, journey out of Shreveport and north to Oil City, Louisiana, and check out antique drilling equipment at the Louisiana State Oil & Gas Museum.
