Description

Restless souls in Portland’s hotels, restaurants, and pubs. Phantom wolves in its infamous Shanghai Tunnels. Ghost ships and haunted lighthouses along the Pacific coast. Bigfoot encounters in the Oregon and Washington wilderness. This road trip puts you in touch with Portland’s storied past (above ground and below) and contemporary culture before taking you west amid Oregon wineries and dense woodlands. It then heads north along the along the Pacific Coast Highway/Scenic Byway, where local legends are as ubiquitous as ocean mists. You can ask about sea lore at the maritime museum in Astoria. The region’s oldest (and, some say, one of its most haunted) settlements is just shy of Washington State, where the notoriously treacherous Columbia River meets the Graveyard of the Pacific. You’ll end your journey in Olympic National Park, where known wildlife and enigmas like Bigfoot are enveloped in ancient forests. All along the way, the region’s mysteries and most authentic travel experiences unfold.
