Description
Wyoming is home to the world's first national park, Yellowstone, as well as the country's first national forest, the Shoshone. Cheyenne, where this tour begins, is the location of the Terry Bison Ranch. More than 2,000 animals, including antelope, bison, elk, and wild coyote, live here. The Wyoming Hereford Ranch, founded in 1873, was one of the largest purebred cattle breeding ranches in the country and is still in operation today. Visit Fort Washakie, the headquarters of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, for information on visiting the graves of Chief Washakie and Sacajawea, the Shoshone woman who guided Lewis and Clark. The second-largest forest in the lower 48 states, Bridger-Teton National Forest, is along the way and includes the Gros Ventre Slide and Kelly Hot Spring.
