Description

In addition to its title as one of the Most Beautiful Small Towns in America, Jim Thorpe has been named one of the Top 50 Places to Live and Play, one of the Top 100 Adventure Towns and the most Fantastic Town for Fall. It’s a recreation destination, charming small town, and historic landmark all in one.

Visitors frequent Jim Thorpe from nearby Philadelphia and New York City for hiking, biking, white water rafting, skiing and horseback riding. The Lehigh Valley and Flagstaff Mountain provide a beautiful setting with nature and parks galore. Guests can additionally boat, fish, swim and camp near area lakes for a respite from big cities.

The town’s businesses line a single main street with storefronts, bed and breakfasts and local eateries creating a scene perfect for a post card. Take a walking tour or carriage ride to familiarize yourself with the town, then choose from art galleries, antique shops, spas or museums.

In addition to the historic Old Jail Museum, Mauch Chunk Museum, No. 9 Coal Mine & Museum, and Eckley Miner’s Village, don’t miss the Asa Packer and Harry Packer Mansions, two elaborate local landmarks. The Lehigh Gorge Scenic Railway, Old Mauch Chunk Train Station and Mauch Chunk Opera House also offer historically significant entertainment. For more of what Jim Thorpe offers, view their reviews.

Traveler Reviews

I chose to retire in Jim Thorpe because it is an art and nature-rich country village filled with winderful scenery and great art opportunities. If you are looking for a wonderful vacation, filled with activities of all sorts, you will be glad you chose Jim Thorpe, PA. One of the nicest things is the deep forests and green mountains, filled with vistas and wildlife. The other day, my wide was going to her hairdresser when she encounteres a mother bear with FOUR cubs right in our front yard. She was teaching them to climb trees and they were dooing quite well for being only about 6 months old.

It is a beautiful town, with a juvenile camp, Camp Adams. That is involved in the kids for cash scandal in Luzerne County. Lets not forget about the kids.

We love this wonderful and beautiful town, no matter what time of year we visit it is always a great time, fabulous food, art, music and the best time with friendly people having enlightening experiences. There is no need to move our car once we arrive for our get away weekend all is within walking distance. The people have such spirit and the history and charm allows for many fond memories. Thank you Jim Thorpe!!!!!

jim thrope is one of the best places to visit not only is it beautiful is fun and there are alot of romantic places to go plus we have an old jail where this guy claimed he was incent and that is hand print would prove it and as many times as they painted over it and tried to fix it the hand print will always be there. the mansion in here is also beautiful especially at christmas time. the food is wounderful and the tourist place from way back when the irish had the town they still have alot of the old stores running to this day with old wine and wounderful food and a perfect view from pennspeak and flagstaff. overall its a beautiful place and it should win the best rally of 2012 i would give it a 5 star review

It is so great to see Jim Thorpe as a finalist for the Best Small Town, I love my native Carbon County....
May the spirits of "Bright Path" aka Jim Thorpe inspire the current political beings of Pa to honor their promise from long ago to the ancestors of Jim Thorpe...Honor Your Promise.
