Description

Lewiston’s proximity to Niagara Falls in the Niagara River region makes for a mix of outdoor recreation, history, shopping and food and wine. While a trip to the falls is a must, the Niagara River provides the perfect setting for picnicking, hiking and white water rafting. Visitors often come to boat and fish as well, with biking, cross-country skiing, Frisbee golf and swimming also available.

At Niagara Falls take a boat tour on the famed Maid of the Mist or aim for an aerial view with a helicopter ride. Then head to the Niagara County Wine Trail where over a dozen wineries offer tours, tastings and year round events. Visit in July for the Annual Wine and Culinary Festival or September for Harvest Fest, amongst others.

Lewiston has a rich history for its role in the War of 1812 and the Underground Railroad. Tour Old Fort Niagara or The Lewiston Museum to go back in time, or visit one of three local theatres and Artpark in the summers for entertainment and creativity showcased. Our Lady of Fatima Shrine is another cultural attraction with scenic and spiritual significance.

Most importantly, Lewiston’s dining is enough of a draw on its own. Our team’s favorite stops included Orange Cat Coffee Company, Tommy George’s Village Coffee House, Mangia Café and Bakery, Village Bake Shoppe, Brickyard, Apple Granny, Hibbard’s Custard, Macri’s Italian Garden and six other fantastic finds. See where locals love to eat in Lewiston’s reviews.

Lewiston is a great friendly place to live and raise a family. It has considerable character with its historic buildings and numerous small, locally owned businesses. My favorite spot throughout the year is the aptly named Water Street Landing - - located right on the shore of the Niagara River right at the end of Center Street. There you will find great food with great service, a wonderful view of the Niagara River and Canada, and superior entertainment throughout the year. I especially enjoy having dinner and drinks there with the regular crowd on Tuesday evenings and listening to Jack Civiletto perform (mostly) Frank Sinatra hits. With two indoor bars and a covered patio bar, live bands and fish fries every Friday all year long, live bands three times a week along with Monday clam slams in the summer; and then Jack singing every Tuesday - - for me it doesn’t get any better than Water Street Landing!
