Description

DeLand is named after its founder, Henry Addison DeLand, and is considered the Athens of Florida. It is home to Florida’s oldest private college, Stetson University, with a campus classified as a National Historic District. Be sure to visit the Stetson campus while visiting, and don’t miss the Stetson Mansion, Florida’s first luxury home built in 1886.

While the town hosts many events yearly, the most popular is the annual DeLand Fall Festival of the Arts. This two-day event held in the historic downtown area attracted over 50,000 people from all over Florida in recent years. The downtown area has been recognized as a "national Main Street program," and offers renowned shopping, dining and hotels.

As expected in Florida, DeLand is home to the outdoors with parks and lakes for boating, recreation and beauty. Stay on the St. John’s River or take a guided boat tour; get active with swimming, canoeing and kayaking; or nature watch with a variety of fish and birds in the area. Row through Lake Woodruff National Forest from De Leon Springs for 18,000 acres of natural exploration.

If you’re still looking for an adventure, visit the famed Skydive DeLand, the training capital of the world. DeLand is also known for its air station and features a Naval Air Station Museum with historic artifacts and equipment on display. For more on Florida’s patriotic treasure, check out these reviews.

I love the small town feel and they way they keep up downtown events!

DeLand supports is Veterans via Mainstreet DeLand Association, DeLand Rotary, Honor Air and our Veterans parade just to name a few. Just as importantly we support our entire community by preserving its history, providing a wide variety of community participation events consistently and setting the bar high for its future as well as for other small towns in America. Come see DeLand where your only a stranger once :-)

DeLand is an All American City. It sprays the kids with a fire truck hose for it's birthday party in June. The Rotary club puts out American flags for all of the holidays. Patriotic murals cover the town, Honor Air flys WW II Vets to DC each year, The Wounded Warriors have a block party downtown, the Veterans Day Parade brings out thousands of people and DeLand is the home of the DeLand Naval Air Station Museum. and the Original Hangar Dance.
DeLand is also the home of thousands of veterans.
We are proud to call DeLand home!

We are proud to be an intergral part of the City of DeLand, which founder, Henry A. DeLand, nicknamed "The Athens of Florida", because he declared that DeLand would be a center for education. You would be hard pressed to find a more patriotic town in Florida or across this great country. Those who serve or have served in the military branches are revered & held in the highest esteem. Go downtown for the Veteran's Day Parade & you'll think you stepped back into the 1950's when it was a huge family event to turn out, wave our flags & pay homage to those who gave so much to preserve our freedoms. As populated as the City has become over the last several decades, DeLand still has the feel of Small Town USA. Our Honor Air program has allowed many of our military personnel to be flown to Washington DC to be honored at a lunch with our US Senators/Congressmen. They tour the WWII & Vietnam War Memorials & a country's heartfelt gratitude is expressed unconditionally. DeLand is truly the most patriotic city in America.
