A family-friendly college town, Denton hosts the University of North Texas, Texas Women’s University, and North Central Texas College. Young residents thrive in the arts and music scene while families enjoy plenty of parks and festivals, all of which culminate in Courthouse Square.

The downtown square is bustling with shops, eateries, entertainment venues and events. Visitors can shop, relax at a spa, eat to their hearts content and catch a live show or browse a gallery. In addition to the Courthouse-on-the-Square Museum, the town offers an African American Museum, a Firefighters’ Museum, the Bayless-Selby House Museum and Hangar 10 Museum. The universities host the majority of the dozen art galleries and walking tours are available.

Music entertainment ranges from Concerts on the Square and Twilight Tunes to the annual Arts & Jazz Festival in April. Also check out Denton Community Theatre, Dan’s Silverleaf, and the Center for Visual Arts for more local talent. These venues host film, storytelling, flower, holiday and blues festivals annually, plus concerts, tastings and art shows.

Denton’s also home to Horse Country with a number of local horse farms where visitors can tour and ride. Additional local tours include live music pub crawls, historic walking tours, a public art tour, and a sampling tour that combines museums, shopping and restaurants. See what else residents love about Denton in their reviews.

I moved here at age 27. I'm now 41. I love this town! When I was going through breast cancer treatment, and when my house flooded, people didn't hesitate to help in every way possible.

Denton is amazing! No other place in American quite like it. Its in a unique location above a large metropolitan area (DFW), so its close enough to get a big city vibe but far enough away to get away and enjoy what a small town has to offer. It is also home of 2 large universities, one in which churns out good artists and musicians who keep the town vibrant and forever young. They say Denton is like Austin Texas 20 years ago. While that may work for getting an idea of what its like in Denton it is like it Denton, Denton is truly a new anomaly in the USA. The people in Denton are epitomize that Texas friendly attitude. Denton is kind of like a folksy Berkely churning out better and more creative artists and musicians than Austin. Its a very secret hotspot in the US. The booze and food is cheap and the fun times are RICH. If you want to get away from everywhere USA, this is the place to do it.

The most live music per capita in the US. With two universities, Denton has every imaginable category of night life and entertainment, with dozens of venues, art, music, and cultural festivals from February til December, restaurants of every style and stripe, and all of it walkable from central Denton.
